Nikolai von Bismarck is a photographer specialising in fashion, portraiture and reportage. Born in London in 1986. Nikolai’s photographs from Ethiopia were the subject of a solo exhibition in London in 2014, he has gone on to photograph various projects in Myanmar, Cuba, Mozambique, Romania and India. He completed two books: one of portraits, “The Dior Sessions” published by Rizzoli in 2019, that features a number of the great artists, actors, photographers, designers and musicians of our times with tailoring by Kim Jones, Artistic Director at Dior Homme. And one titled : “The Fendi Set“, which examines Kim Jones’s relationship to the legendary Bloomsbury Set: the early twentieth-century community of British writers, intellectuals, and artists, including Virginia Woolf, Duncan Grant, and Vanessa Bell, who inspired Kim’s collection and his creative process.
Shot on diverse photographic methods such as Polaroid, traditional film, and Super-8 film stills Nikolai photographed Christy Turlington, Demi Moore, Gwendoline Christie, Kate Moss, and Naomi Campbell amongst others.
Nikolai’s work has appeared in numerous publications and for various companies, including Dunhill, Messika, Miu Miu, Self Service, Cabana, Perfect, Acne Paper, The Financial Times, The Telegraph, Vogue and the covers of Arena Homme+, W Magazine, GQ and Harper’s Bazaar. His reportage work has been featured in several publications including The Times and The Nation.
